Clear Those Calendars People!

Mark off May 28, 2010 as BUSY! Sex & the City 2 hits theaters this summer - I can't stand it and I know a lot of you out there are just as excited as I am!

See you at the movies!

Also coming out around the same time as the movie is the book The Carrie Diaries.

Did you ever wonder how Carrie Bradshaw got to be so fabulous? Well now you can find out who Carrie was before the Manolos, in Candace Bushnell's latest books, The Carrie Diaries, set to be released April 27, 2010, just one month before the new SATC movie hits theaters.

The first in a two book series, The Carrie Diaries will chronicle Carrie Bradshaw's teen years, following her as she develops her fashion sense, creating trends only Carrie could make popular. The book will also go along for the ride of Carrie's first love, which is sure to explain how Ms. Bradshaw got her start in writing about her crazy relationships.

The most exciting thing will be who are Carrie's friends? Teenage Carrie means pre-Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte, so will the new friends be mini-clones of the fab four? You'll just have to wait and see, as details on this book are slow coming. But for those who have a hard time waiting, here is the cover art for the new book.

The CW channel should be all over this book, as a television series is a must. An '80's flashback to the making of Carrie Bradshaw would no doubt be a huge hit.

Fashionista University

I got an email yesterday about this new program called Fashionista University in NYC and I am so envious of all the lucky guys and gals that will be able to participate. Not only am I to old to participate (it's for tweens and college age kids) but I also do not live in the big apple... Flying out every Saturday for a class for 3 months just wouldn't work. Believe me, if I could figure a way to get past both obstacles I would so be there!

Here is the info from NY PR Firm, Wunderlich, Inc.:

Fashionista University (www.fashionistauniversity.com), a whole new kind of education for the up-and-coming trendsetters of the fashion world. We would love for you to spread the word and let all the teens, tweens and of course parents know about this amazing program by covering on your site and would gladly send you additional information or photos should you need.

Starting this January, middle-school through college-aged students will have the opportunity to take a variety of “Saturday’s only”-seven week, hands on courses where they will learn the ins and outs of the fashion business including design, publicity, wardrobe styling/costume design, event planning, jewelry/accessory design and more. Wode Scent Paint - Wacky or Cool?

If you happen to be in NYC today you can stop by Project No. 8 (138 Division St., b/t Orchard & Ludlow Sts.) and pick up a bottle of Wode Scent Paint. It apparently starts selling today from what I understand. What is it you ask... Well, let me tell you.

From Daily Candy NY: "Fashion label Boudicca unleashes perfume graffiti meant to be sprayed aggressively (not spritzed). Cobalt color disappears without a trace in moments — leaving behind the scents of tuberose and clary sage."

I went to check out the website and it immediately launches a movie of a women being sprayed with it and basically rubbing it into her neck as we watch it disappear. If you watch it at work you may want to let your co-workers know it's not porn - it appears as if it could be going in that direction but I assure you it isn't. (You can skip the movie altogether if you want by the "Skip the Movie" link in the top left).

If you're not into the whole blue paint aspect they do sell it in clear too, it just has a higher concentration of fragrance. I may need to swing by Barneys in Seattle and see if they carry it - I want to smell it.

Do you remember those trick pens that would shoot out blue ink on people and then it would disappear? This reminds me of that... I wonder if it's the same but with scent added... Hmmm....

So, what do you think? Wacky or Cool?

Henri Bendel Open See is MONDAY

I just learned from local jewelry designer Xenia Mara that the Henri Bedel 'Open See' day is Monday! Quick, buy your airplane ticket and head on over to NY for your chance to show your product to the buyers of Henri Bendel. I did it a few years ago and it was a fun experience!

I will say though that I got there at 3am to stand in line and we were #3 and #4 in line. We waited till about 9:30am, they opened the doors and took a chunk of us in. We were quickly walked down to the buyers, we sat down, they asked for our samples, looked them over, gave me a card and said they'd be in contact. It lasted about 5 minutes. I did get a call back but in the long run nothing came of it, even after a return flight to NY to take all my samples to show...

I would do it again though - I met some of the most amazing designers!!

Good luck Xenia - you will do great!

H&M, IT'S ABOUT TIME!

This Friday the first H&M opens in Seattle (Ok, Tukwila, not Seattle, but still close)! It's all very exciting and I'm a tiny bit sad. No longer will my H&M shopping trips be reserved for trips to NYC. I loved going to NY and stocking up on the ultra hip, yet cheap, H&M clothing... Now every girls in Seattle will be wearing them too. Personally, I think it's pretty mortifying to run into someone with the same outfit. That may make me a bit nervous when shopping there as I know that place will be heavily trafficked for the first several months it's open. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited and can't wait to head over there and check it out. It's a great place for accessories and adorable tops!!

They are opening several locations, the first one in Southcenter (hello shopping during my lunch break!) opens Friday. Downtown and the U Village will follow this Fall.

Check out this article in NWSource about it! Will you be shopping there?

NYC!

I got back from a whirlwind trip to the big apple. We had alot of fun and saw a lot of things!

First off we arrived on Friday and just went straight to our apartment in midtown that we rented. I must say we literally were in the perfect location for everything!! After getting settled we decided to have dinner at the Hourglass Tavern on our street where Regina and I got the Lobster and Fettuccine meal for $24.95. Quite a bargain and such a cute little place! Apparently we stayed on restaurant row, so we did have many options!!

Saturday we had brunch at Brasserie Les Halles. The food was tasty but the service was slow. The reviews I had read said that but I can now say that I do agree! after brunch we decided to kind of mosey our way north on 5th Ave. We stopped in at Henri Bendel for some signature perfume making and window shopping, then we made our way through Central Park where we had lunch at the Boathouse. After lunch we went to see Strawberry Fields, the John Lennon memorial. Regina and Kristin decided to hit the Natural History Museum and Melissa and I hoped in a cab back towards the apt. Melissa went in to relax and I went off on my own to explore and do some mild shopping (H&M). That night we met up with Tim (who had his appendix removed a few days before - he was such a trooper) and Kelly for dinner and drink at Bar 89. After dinner Kelly, Regina and I hit town for some late night partying. We stumbled into a piano bar where tons of fabulously hot gay men were singing show tunes - that place was a ton of fun! After there we hit up one more place that had a beautiful bartender!! (Oh, earlier in the day Regina and I saw this older women in her fur coat, big jewelry and GIANT red hair... I saw her again when I was on my way to H&M and then we both saw her as we were in our town car on the way out of the city... She is hard to miss. My guess is she works at the library by Bryant Park as all 3 sightings were close by and she looked like she was walking into it on the last one... I have made an artists rendering of her for your enjoyment! I want to know her!!)

Sunday we slept in a bit. Regina and I went to see Xanadu - which was terribly fun! After the play we hopped the subway and met Kelly for our Coney Island trip. The subway trip was about 45min. It was fun to go somewhere different in NY. Once we got there we found out it wasn't open like the website said so we took some pictures and got a hot dog at Nathan's. Yum! We headed back to the city, met with Kristin and Melissa and Tim and Kelly's place, then went to a bar across the street for drinks and jovial conversation. (Side Note: I emailed Coney Island and they said they did open but the attendance was so low that they closed... sad.)

Monday was St. Patrick's Day. All of us except Kristin went to Century 21 for some shopping. Then we hopped the subway back up to Kristin and watched the parade for a hour or so. We met some interesting people and had a lot of fun watching the people go by... At about 2pm we headed North as we had reservations at The Plaza for tea. Apparently The Plaza is closed but the Palm Court restaurant isn't. Tea was nice but we were still hungry after - we went for pizza. Then back to the apt. for some mild resting and then off to dinner with Kelly.

Tuesday was our last day so we went to MOMA before all heading to the airport. Sadly, Regina and I were stuck at JFK for 3 hours due to airplane issues (cargo to heavy, left engine didn't work, switched planes, 15th in line to leave, etc.)... We were sooo ready to get home!!

I took some photos... Check em out!

Dear God, make me a bird. So I could fly far. Far far away from here.

(That's my favorite line from Forrest Gump).

Only 2 more days till my NYC trip. I am anxiously awaiting getting out of
town, getting out of work, getting away from everything and just going somewhere that I don't have to think about doing much of anything. I can just do what I want. (Seeing Xanadu is among the things I want to do! NOOO I am not kidding!! We already have tickets.)

Please pray that I run into John Mayer on the streets of NY and he falls madly in love with me... and we go far far away and have beautiful babies or some crap like that. In reality what would happen would be I would see him on the street and freeze up, pass out or run away... The whole seeing JM has been kind of a joke ever since the planning for this trip began. The gawker stalker website tells you where celebs have been spotted around NYC. So I joked I was going to go hang out in his neighborhood Starbucks and hope to run into him... Really, I won't be doing that, I promise, I don't want to be THAT girl. Last thing I want is to be labeled as is that "crazy John Mayer stalker". We can't have babies if he has a restraining order out on me now can we!? (I kid, I kid!)

So anyways, NY is almost here and I am so ready!! There is a fashion exhibit at The Met I want to see, so I need to find time to squeeze that in. Plus I plan to hit up MOMA to see the Helvetica exhibit. We're gonna try and see the St Patrick's Day parade, have brunch at Les Halles (I love Anthony Bourdain) and maybe even get over to Coney Island. There is a lot to do and just a few days to do it all in... Wish me luck!

Inspire Me!

I'm sorry people, I haven't blogged in several weeks but I just haven't felt inspired by much that I've seen lately.

I haven't been shopping, no emails have caught my eye, no humongous sales to report... nuthin'... I'd love to be inspired or know what is inspiring you all right now - thoughts?

I am headed to NYC in a few weeks so surely I'll have plenty to say then. I plan to hit up H&M and Century 21 for some discount shopping!! Stay tuned!!
