Girl On Top Re-cap

Last night I drove down to the Westfield Southcenter Mall to attend the Girl On Top event which was hosted by The Limited. I would be lying if I said I had been in a Limited in the last several years but honestly they had some really nice pieces and accessories. They were much nicer than I remember!

Before the event started, myself and other anxious ladies formed a very orderly line outside the store. Several of my blogger friends were there too, which made waiting in line fly by. We were let in at 6pm - there were several friendly store employees to greet up, wine and frozen custard (which was delicious!) to snack on.

Myself and a few other fashion bloggers (Jess, Kristina, Youa, Sydney, Shalonne, Darrah and Kam) had our pictures taken with Nicole Williams, the author of Girl On Top. She was very friendly and easy to chat with. She was dressed in clothing from The Limited and these hot peep toe Christian Louboutin heals.

Once the actual fashion show started, Nicole and another women from The Limited (sorry I didn't write down her name) showed us several looks to wear for interviews, business meetings, general work attire and even taking the look from work to evening. This was where I started to see The Limited in a new light. I took pictures of this portion of the event so go check them out! (The models are store employees).

After the show, they introduced their stylists who came from the home office in Columbus, OH. I immediately grabbed one and asked her for some help on buying a suit as I have not bought one in over 5 years. She was glad to help and assisted me in finding the perfect fit for me. Trying it on took quite awhile as they only have 6 dressing rooms and most women seemed to have the same idea as me. Once I made it into the dressing room one of the stylists came by and helped me with a belt and another shirt... The customer service was amazing - A+! I bought the whole suit, a belt and 2 tops... Oh I forgot to mention it was all 40% off for the event so I feel like I got a great deal! I'm not a person who wears a suit often so I made sure to pick one that I could piece out with my normal clothing - I'm pretty thrilled with my purchase!

They also had this cool obi belt and it sold out at the event - they said it would... I am just going to have to add it to my wish list.

After the event I headed out and grabbed my gift bag that was said to be "valued at over $500" - I must say I do not agree with that statement. The gift bag had some nice items in it but there is no way it's actually valued at $500. It contained the latest Elle magazine, a bottle of lavender lotion, an "emergency kit" from plan b, a few coupons, and a small clutch bag from The Limited with a $19.95 price tag. The items are nice and I'll use them but they are not worth $500, so I'm sorry if that was why you headed down there, but hopefully the event was fun for you too!

Check out Nicole's book, Girl On Top, Youa read it and said it was a good read!

Thank you for the invite, it was an amazing event and I'm so glad I went!

The Japan Countdown & Harajuku

I have spent the last few hours researching Japan and reading blog posts from some friends on their recent trip to Japan and I can't even explain how excited I am getting. 64 more days!

Today the topic of Harajuku came up and it has occured to me that I can not write a fashion blog and not go see the Harajuku kids while in Tokyo. That just seems so wrong! Only problem is I will not be in Tokyo on a Sunday so I will have to head over on Saturday morning and HOPE to catch a glimpse of them... I'm sad I can't squeeze Sunday in but our schedule is so packed with places to go and we are trying to limit our time in Tokyo as it's the most expensive city we'll be visiting... But who knows, maybe that will change.

What is Harajuku you may be asking (Dad, I know you are), well here is your answer from Wikipedia:
"Harajuku is the common name for the area around Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, Japan. Every Sunday, young people dressed in a variety of styles including gothic lolita, visual kei, and decora, as well as cosplayers spend the day in Harajuku socializing. The fashion styles of these youths rarely conform to one particular style and are usually a mesh of many. Most young people gather on Jingu Bridge, which is a pedestrian bridge that connects Harajuku to the neighboring Meiji Shrine area.

Harajuku is also a fashion capital of the world renowned for unique street fashion. Harajuku street style is promoted in Japanese and international publications such as Kera, Tune, Gothic & Lolita Bible and Fruits. Many prominent designers and fashion ideas have sprung from Harajuku and incorporated themselves into other fashions throughout the world. Harajuku is also a large shopping district that includes luxury western designers like Louis Vuitton, Harajuku native designers, and affordable shops catering to youths."

We can pretty much thank Gwen Stefani for bringing Harajuku kids to our attention in the US. Had you heard of them before? If so, explain. :)

Enjoy!

Funny for the Day

I just got an email from Galactic Boutique in Capitol Hill today with this image that made me laugh (it doesn't take much, people).

If you're not familiar with them they are a shop that sells really eclectic items. Here is how they describe themselves: "Located between Downtown Seattle and Its Glamorous Capitol Hill shopping district, the GALACTIC BOUTIQUE: STORE AND GALLERY is a fully armed and operational intergalactic shopping experience serving the many faces of modern design: from Retro-kitcsh and Space-ship-chic all the way to the Global Underground. Create luxurious interiors with scented candles, romantic votives, and synthetic botanicals. Organize your home with space-saving furniture and colorful kitchenware. Host a sexy party with sleek barware and dinnerware. Cover your walls with a variety of affordable art. Treat yourself to a spa experience with handmade bath and body care form massage oils to sugar scrubs. Dress yourself up in future urban fashion with t-shirts, skirts, panties and wallets made by independent designers from all over the Galaxy."

It's a fun shop to look around and you'll surely find something that will make you giggle or you'll find that "I just have to get this for (fill in name here)". ;)

Glitter Sale Finds

I had a little update in the Glitter Gala blog but decided this one needed one all of it's own! So, here goes... Monica, Melissa and myself went to the Glitter Sale on Saturday the 15th and I wasn't really sure what to expect. We got there at about 7am and had about 50 people in front of us.

The first people in line got there at 4am (WOW!) and then others started arriving at 6am (so I was told)... They opened the doors at 9am and it was mass chaos of people rushing to the back to start shopping. I headed to the back to look at shoes and Melissa and Monica went to the vintage area.

I got so overwhelmed by all the people I gave up and went to the jewelry counter. I had #54 (as you can see by the image Melissa had #55) so I could start shopping (they hand out the #'s while in line and then call your number during that sale). I ended up finding some great necklaces, 2 rings and 3 watches (see image at bottom). I am happy with my finds!

I tried to go back and look at clothing but just couldn't... Monica and Melissa found some great vintage dresses and items, I wish I had gone in there earlier... It was getting to be pretty picked over - note for next time, go in there first! (here is an image of Monica showing off her new finds).

The Goodwill employees were so helpful and nice, especially with all the people and craziness they held it together and were patient and kind.

Here are my new jewelry finds - I had so much fun!! If you didn't make it this year make sure you do next year!!

Make sure to check out the photos from the Gala and Sale!

This weekend I went away to Walla Walla for a little bike & winery trip. Seven of us headed East for the 4.5 hour drive, then rode our bikes close to 12 miles while stopping at 8 wineries and 1 brewery. It was a great weekend. Always nice to get away!!

Photo by Youa KongAnyway, that isn't the point of this blog. Since I was out of town, as was Dawn, we couldn't get to the grand opening for new shop, JJ Boutique. Fashion Fan Youa, went for us!! Check out her write-up and pictures she snapped of the new shop - it looks really fantastic and I can' wait to swing by and check it out first hand! (Especially b/c everything is 20%!)

H&M, IT'S ABOUT TIME!

This Friday the first H&M opens in Seattle (Ok, Tukwila, not Seattle, but still close)! It's all very exciting and I'm a tiny bit sad. No longer will my H&M shopping trips be reserved for trips to NYC. I loved going to NY and stocking up on the ultra hip, yet cheap, H&M clothing... Now every girls in Seattle will be wearing them too. Personally, I think it's pretty mortifying to run into someone with the same outfit. That may make me a bit nervous when shopping there as I know that place will be heavily trafficked for the first several months it's open. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited and can't wait to head over there and check it out. It's a great place for accessories and adorable tops!!

They are opening several locations, the first one in Southcenter (hello shopping during my lunch break!) opens Friday. Downtown and the U Village will follow this Fall.

Check out this article in NWSource about it! Will you be shopping there?

I came across this SUPER COOL site!!

I was searching for some fun fashion sites and I came across this site, Popgloss, somehow... OMG, I am in love with some of the products I see... Check out this AMAZING jewelry from Nectar Jewelry!!! I literally want to buy everything I see... If you are a designer, this is the site you need to get on, they have such an amazing eclectic mix of products... Some of the most unique items I have seen...

Some of the items on the site are so great I just don't know how to explain them. I saw this picnic dress and it's so funny and kitschy that it makes me like it more and more... The dress is made from Reddish from Israel, they created the Buttercup dress from three different food related fabrics. I just think it's so clever!!! It would go perfectly with that cute Kate Spade Cape Cod bag I've secretly been wanting... whoops, guess the cats out of the bag on that one.

New Shoes for ME!!

Today was a beautiful day so I thought I would go to Nordstrom Rack with the intention of returning a tan coat and leaving... Oh no... That wasn't the case at all. I decided to just "look" at the shoes. However, I did anything BUT just "LOOK". First, I tried on these adorable Paolo black wedge peep toes for $39.90, sold!
Then I found these ADORABLE turquoise Coach sandals that were marked down from $185 to $69.90, sold!
Then I found these patent leather blue peep toe Steve Madden flats for $49.90... SOLD! I exchanged the $35 coat and felt pretty good that I got atleast one pair for sort of free - well, not really, but I want to think it was kinda free, ok!?
