Glitter Gala Re-cap

Last night was the 2nd annual Glitter Gala held downtown at the Sheraton. As promised, it was filled with lots of glitter - it's patrons sure know how to bring out the bling!

The fashion show began at 7:30 and the theme was the Golden Era of Film. The models were made up of 60 volunteers along with 2 local celebs! All of the clothing in the show will be available at the Glitter Sale on November 14-15th. They had over 30 movie snipits (Grease, South Pacific, Pretty Woman, Gigi, Some Like it Hot, Breakfast at Tiffany's, etc...) paired with outfits that portrayed the film and the era - it was really well done!

The show ended with the winning designs from the students from the Art Institute - they were given $75, a movie to work with (Twilight, Austin Powers...) and then let loose in the Goodwill store. It's like a mini Project Runway...

FACE Seattle 2009 presented by Caffe Vita

Tonight was the FACE Seattle event which benefited Sunflower Children Foundation. It was an an exciting evening of delicious wine (Young's Columbia Winery), art and amazing clothing from Barneys New York, plus they had a silent and live auction.

The event was held at the Herban Feast at SoDo Park (3200 1st Ave S) and it was the first time I have ever been there - It's such a great space!

The evening started with an open bar of wine and beer, appetizers, pizza from Via Tribunali, coffee by Cafe Vita, a wine toss, and a fabulous silent auction. (I was lucky enough to bid on a cut and color at Seven and got it!) John Curley was the auctioneer and MC for the evening. I had the privilege of meeting him earlier in the evening and even got a quick picture with him.

Melissa and I mingled around chatting with folks here and there and snapping a few pictures of the auction and crowd. Once the live auction started we grabbed a spot stage left and watched as John Curley busted out his auctioneer skills. All in all it appears the Sunflower Children's Foundation raised a nice amount of money for the kids.

The runway show was filled with amazing items from Barney's - Melissa and I were drooling over many of the dresses. The handbags and clothing were all courtesy of Barney's New York, the shoes however were not as they weren't condusive to the floors. No worries, the shoes were paired very well but sadly I don't know where they came from... It was a great show and an even better reason to be there - charity! Or should I say "it's for the kids!"

The Goodwill Glitter Gala

Last night was the first annual Glitter Gala which was put on to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Goodwill Glitter Sale (which was originally called 'Sequins, Satin, Feathers and Beads' and then 'All That Glitters' and then eventually shorten to the name we now know). It will be held tomorrow and Sunday from 9am - 6pm at their Dearborn St. Store (1400 South Lane Street).

The gala was attended by many sharply dressed men and women who were there to support Goodill! The night started out with light appetizers and champagne being passed around while the patrons bought raffle tickets for numerous prizes and bid on 2 tables worth of silent auction items. I had my eye on a collector Barbie but sadly I didn't have time to bid.

The Art Institute had several designers there as well who had created pieces for the runway show. They had been given $75 at Goodwill and had been the task of creative a futuristic outfit for the runway show. I got some great images of those items, make sure to check them all out. (I had hoped to meet the designers but was so busy taking photos I didn't get a chance to speak to all of them.)

Rhinestone Rosie was also there with some of her vintage jewelry pieces that patrons could view. From what I was told some of those pieces will be in the Glitter Sale!

At a little after 7pm the Sheraton Metropolitan Ballroom doors were opened and guests were asked to go in and find their tables for dinner. We took our places next to the stage so we could get some great shots of the clothing coming off the runway.

The runway show was great; Mary Louise (head of the Goodwill vintage collection), the Art Institute and Robert Leonard did a fantastic job of styling the models and clothing to look like the differnt eras they were representing. Their whole show is about reusing and repurposing items, what a great eco friendly show!! All of the clothing they showed came from Goodwill which, as you should know, are items that the community donated. Plus, all of the items they showed will be in the Glitter Sale!

The proceeds from the event support Goodwill’s free job training and education programs, which help low income people with barriers to employment get the skills and support they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency through work. Towards the end of the evening everyone was introduced to two success stories, Joyce and Kimberly, it was very heart warming and portrayed how Goodwill really does help people!

And so it begins....

Tonight Nordstrom kicked off Bellevue Fashion Week with a bang! On the agenda was a shopping preview and a runway show of several high end designer pieces.

Some of my favorite items were the L.A.M.B shoes - they were so pretty. Like little pieces of art on your tootsies... I need them!

We arrived for the 6:30pm VIP reception where we snapped pictures of the bags and shoes displayed for the guests to peruse. The drink of the night was this yummy pink concoction called the Fashionista. The appetizers were being passed by super friendly wait staff - who we found out were not only nice to look at but some were actually models too. (Hi Matthew from TN and Denise who came with her roommate - you guys were so nice to chat with! Thanks for hooking us up so many times with yummy appetizers!)

While sitting and noshing, we met some lovely ladies and chatted with them until it was time to go in for the show at 8pm. I had taken a bunch of images pre-show but the runway show was what I was most anxious about - time to test out the new camera! I'm still learning the new camera so bear with me. I don't claim to be a "photographer" but I try my best to get photos that will let you, the reader, feel like you were there. Check them out here!

Gas Masks, Stilettos and Designer Jeans

Tonight was the SPU Fashion Show, Gas Masks, Stilettos and Designer Jeans.

It was proposed by it's creator, Heather Cozad, to be "a story that reflects our history, our present, our future. Fashion is a visual aesthetic and a tool of communication. Fashion influences us and yet, it is a product of us. It has the ability to open our eyes or blind us. Inspire benevolence or violence. How can fragile threads hold so much power over us?"

The fashion show was broken down into four parts:
Fashion as Military Power
Fashion as Environment
Fashion as Cultural and Religious
Fashion as Social Justice

The Fashion Group at SPU obviously put a lot of hard work into the show. My two favorite pieces were in the Fashion as Environment. I believe the designers are Laura Hendrie and Emily Bajemabut sadly I was to busy taking pictures and not taking notes (That is not an easy task as fashion shows are way to fast to do both, it's a 2 person job. Sorry. If I am incorrect, please let me know so I can correct my mistake.) I loved those two dresses, I'd wear either!! They are made out of sustainable materials which makes them even more appealing.

I found the show, the models, the clothes, and the music to all flow really well. The message of the show was clear. I really hope to be seeing more of these creative designers out there in the real world. Best of luck to you all!

La Mode: An International Evening of Fashion

Dawn and I attended this event tonight in Renton, WA. The MC's were Nick Verreos and Andrae Gonzalo from Project Runway.

The evening started off with the two of them chatting up the crowd about how they got into the fashion business and what their influences were. Nick said he was influenced by the Love Boat, the Carole Burnett Show and flight attendants. He drew a whole collection from his fascination of flight attendants. He also said his mother was a huge support and took him to trunk shows at the age of 12.

Andrae started with curtain slips his grandmother gave him and his sister. He said no sheet was safe in their house!

There were 4 themes for the night: Africa, Great Britain, Middle East, and Asia. We saw some really incredible dresses, coats, evening gowns, bridal wear and costumes.

In the first section, Africa, there was this adorable yellow shirt dress with a bloody heart and a saw on the back. It was designed by Elizabeth Dean, who actually ended up winning the Daywear Designers section for that dress. She called it the "Heartbreak dress". I want it!

In the 2nd section, Great Britain, Jacket and Costume Designers, Ginger Bellus won for her Marie Antoinette style pink costume dress, it was really elaborate and beautiful. There was a great baby blue men's jacket with a satin orange lining and large orange buttons - I loved the buttons, the orange accents were amazing!!

Int the 3rd section, Middle East, Cocktail designers, Jessica Keen won for her Holly Hobby inspired dress. She said she loves bows and ruffles. There were alot of beautiful dresses in this section, I would have worn all of them... There was one that was pink with large flowers at the bottom, it looked very 50's inspired - I just adored it.

And in the last section, Asia, Evening, Ballroom and Bridal Designers, Ava Fernandes won for her African inspired dresses. One was yellow and flaired out at the bottom and the other was a champagne colored dress with "grass" at the bottom. They were lovely! This was a hard one b/c I saw many dresses I would love to own. Especially this electric blue number at the end...

The evening ended with the designers and models all walking the catwalk, which was followed by a VIP reception. Dawn and I snacked on chicken and waited for Nick and Andrae to head over. We tried to get a picture with both designers but Nick was tied up... So we were only able to get one picture as we didn't want to be "those girls"... ya know... He was friendly to chat with and actually sounded interested in hearing about Urban Fashion Network. He took our card and told us how it sounded like a terrific idea. Now, let's hope he checks us out - that would be wonderful! He was so nice, I'm glad we waited to get a picture.
