Our Halloween Party...

We had our party on Saturday, the theme was treehouse of horror. I decorated the house, with loads of help from Regina, to look like you were inside a tree. Hubby and I dress like Tarzan and Jane (which I made myself).

Our party was much smaller than most years - seems alot of folks were out of town this year or just not into the Halloween spirit. Either way we had fun hanging out, watching scary movies and mixing up cocktails. The party ended at 3am!

I posted the pictures, check them out, we had some GREAT costumes!!

We originally had 3 categories: Best Couple, Most Creative and Scariest. We had to change that due to we had no couples left and no one was dressed scary... So we just voted for the best top 3. The winners were Cock Blocker, Nunzilla and Mommy Dearest. Mommy Dearest won best overall and was given an extra prize of free movie passes.

The gifts were old cheesy horror movies and then items that went along with them. One was about a man who kills people and chops them up for cat food. In the bag were 3 cans of cat food, the actual DVD, a chopper, a cat book, a cheesy cat picture and a cat figurine. One was about hot jungle woman who capture explorers and have their way with them and then kill them. In that bag we had condoms ribbed for her pleasure, bug repelant, a book on womans erotic writing, the DVD and a camo tank. The last one was about a family whose father dies and in his will he says his kids have to stay in his house for one week before they can inherit his money. They all die of course. In that bag we had a Evil Dad coffee mug, fake money, 2 books on dealing with anger and toxic parents, a framed family portrait and the DVD. (Sorry, I don't remember the actual names of the films at this moment.)

Thanks to all who came - we hope you enjoyed yourselves.

Yay it's almost Halloween!

As a kid I wasn't allowed to trick-or-treat due to religious reasons (so I was told) but things changed when my mother decided to secretly re-marry one Oct 31st and needed to get me out of the house. (No I am not in therapy - maybe I should be!) So, my new older step-sister, Tracey, took me trick or treating around our little neighborhood in Hendersonville, TN... It was a last minute thing so I drew on my face with eye liner, put on some mismatched clothing and said "I'm a nerd!" - I was 6 people...

So, ever since then it has become a beloved holiday for me. The dressing up, eating candy, wandering your neighborhood knocking on doors... all of it, I just really enjoy it. Sadly, as a 30 year old it might be a bit odd if I walked over to my evil neighbor Linda's house and said "Trick-or-treat"... I'm pretty sure she may call the cops.

I remember my last Halloween of trick-or-treating. I was in high school and went over to some friends house with my other friend Bronwyn. She was a cheerleader for our high school, and I have secretly always wanted to be one, so she let me wear her uniform for Halloween. I drew freckles on my face, put my hair in pig tails and we wandered the neighborhood - we were probably at least 16 or 17. We got a lot of weird looks and comments about being to old... So sadly, that was the last one.

All the years following have, from what I can remember, included dressing up for parties and still enjoying the holiday.

nothing against Hanukkah, we had all the holidays upJeff and I have had several parties of our own and we always dress up. So far we have been The Adams Family (with Matt and Kelly), The Bundy's from Married with Children (with Matt and Kelly), Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf (see above picture) and the Evil Easter Bunny and Dead Santa (see picture to the right).

(the Easter bunny and Santa costumes went along with our theme of holidays... our house was decorated in every holiday except Halloween... with blood dripping off the signs, etc... I have a weird sense of humor... maybe b/c I do need that therapy I referred to earlier... hmmm...).

This year we have our costume idea and I plan to make them tonight. I can't tell you what it is just yet, you'll have to wait. We always decorate the house and invite all our friends over- it's become our one party we throw. I know I look forward to it, hopefully this year will be as fun!! Have a happy and safe Halloween!

Sick...

I'm sick right now with a cold that apparently everyone under the sun has had... Maybe this is a punishment for not getting that flu shot...

I don't really have much to say other than this weekend is the Portland Fashion Week. Regina, Dawn and myself (sickie sickerton) are headed down tomorrow after work. I have advised them to take their Airborne so noone else gets my evil germs.

I vow to wash my hands often, cover my mouth when I sneeze or cough and take my medicine.

I tried answering some emails on Wednesday and just couldn't bear to sit for a long period of time. Today wasn't as bad but it sure feels better lying down... So if anyone got a short email from me that sounded harsh, I assure you it wasn't meant to be that way, it was me merely trying to answer you as quick as possible so I could resume my positioning on the couch. I did have to do work today and I will again tomorrow but being home atleast allows me to rest for small periods and to take the medicine that says "may cause drowsiness"...

Oh and to throw in a bit of fashion... I sure wish I had some of those Oprah's favorite PJ's - Karen Neuburger! I could look cute and be comfy.

Poor Jeff has had to look at me for 2 days now with my crazy hair and scary outfits.

(FYI, I did bath today as I had to see the Dr.)

My personal shout out....

Happy 30th Birthday, John Mayer!

On getting older John said, "Getting to 27 was like turning 30 for me. "That was my year of crying uncontrollably. I'd sob in line at the bakery because I heard a song from my childhood." (quote from contactmusic)

Don't be sad, 30 isn't so bad...

On another note, when looking for the above quote I came upon this random compatibility test in association with John Mayer... It's not looking really promising for me and him, other than we'd have great conversations. John, wanna chat?

DIFFA Party at the Mansion

What a fabulous night we had last night! It was the 3rd annual Party at the Mansion held at the Rainier Club in Downtown Seattle.

UFN had 4 silent auction tables of local designers who we support and who support us. The auction was a success! I'm not sure yet on how much was raised but once I find out I will let you know.

The night started out with hundreds of people mingling in the silent auction area and a few of the other rooms. The auction area is definitely where most people were for the first half of the party. They had a signature drink for the evening, a French Martini I believe it was called. It was delicious, I have no idea how many I had. (We had a DD, no worries!)

The auction ended at about 10:45. I was a little upset b/c I bid on The Industry gift certificate and I watched a guy "snake me" after the auction ended. He was not happy he did not win so he snuck over to the table and put his number down AFTER IT WAS OVER... I was a little upset but the money goes to DIFFA so I let it go... (after a little grumbling of course). He didn't know it was for me, he thought it was for Dawn... so not only did he cheat but he thought he was cheating a pregnant woman... Guess I'm not the only one with a first class ticket to hell buddy (see previous blog to understand)! There is a chance he could read this so I will say there is no ill will NOW but I wasn't really happy with you last night mr. pleather pants man - that was going to be a Christmas gift for my husband!

So anyways, after we sorted out our auction items, we hit the dance floor running. Regina, Birna, myself and Julian danced for quite sometime. We closed down the party as far as I could tell. I had fun snapping a ton of pictures, all of which you can see here.

We met alot of new people, all of whom I hope we stay in touch with. Hi Kimberly from Clutch! Hi Jesse (both of you)! Hi Doctor guys! Hi Aaron! Hi Rick with the cool suit! Hi JJ! Hi Sarah who makes shoes! You all were lovely! Everyone was great, even you mr. pleather pants were fun before the gift card incident. I can forgive. I forgive...

Lastly, we'd like to extend a special thanks to the following designers and companies that donated for the silent auction, we could have never pulled it off w/o you: Le Clair Handcrafted Cards, Chuckles Central, Dandy by CL Young, La Ti Da Da, Scary White Girl Designs, Sweet Pea Cards, Mark Moody Photography, Carla Sonheim, Wire Tree, Knelow Cosmetics, The Makeup Project, Urban Botanic, La Rousse Boutique, Sonja Clothes to Live In, The Industry, The Last Waltz, Adelita, Glee Day Spa, Effie's Heart, Chatty D, Revival Ink, Lunch Designs, Sam Trout, Glam Garb, Cadence Clothing, Rekoj Design, Una, Red Delicious Handbag, MishMash, Sal’vij, Laura Bee Designs, Maya Moon, Tarah Prater Designs, Marlo M, Carolyn Buss Jewelry, Anna Perrone Jewelry, Shamila Jewelry, Cintli Jewelry, Birna Jewelry, Lauren Schwartz Jewelry, Catalyst Designs, Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria, Julian Helt, Melissa Haug, and Birna Sigurbjornsdottir

First class ticket to hell?

I was at Ross in Southcenter today and was looking for a black wrap to go with my dress for tomorrow... I found one, but it had no tag on it... I found a tag on the floor next to the rack marked down to $2.99. The cashier rang me up and sent me on my way...

For the record Ross is a messy store with clothing everywhere, tags missing and all over the floor, rude people pushing through aisles, etc... By no means was I going to search the store for another one... It was my lunch break.

Was my finding a tag (conveniently marked down to $2.99) an easy way to get a first class ticket straight to hell? Or was it ok? I would also assume if it was wrong the cashier would have said this doesn't go with this item as she had to scan it... Maybe I actually found the correct ticket.

Thoughts?

Cutie Patoodie Dresses!

I just received my Shopittome Sale Mail and there were tons of cutie patoodie items in it!

I was attracted to this dress: BCBG Max Azria Shadow Bloom Print Dress, Trapeze shaped dress with double scoopneck, 3/4 flutter sleeves and diamond print border. Pulls on over head. However, the Sale Mail says it went from $158 to $56.88 but there is no mention to the sale on Bloomingdales site... I put it in my shopping cart to see if the sale priced would show up and it came up as $94.80... Hmmmm... I liked it better at $56.88 so I held off.

There is another cute dress: Laundry by Shelli Segal Tie Front Chiffon Halter Dress that went from $260.00 to $129.90 ~ not a bad deal at all!! I love the color!

Regina has sparked this whole new interest I have with dresses.. I was never a big fan before but I feel the desire to own more dresses! Thanks Regina!

Off topic - tomorrow is the DIFFA party!!! We'll have pictures posted hopefully the day after - come back and check them out!

Crazy Life

Wow, things have been really hectic and very busy... My day job is a given in my list of to-do's but once I get home my life just doesn't stop.

We are wrapping up the auction procurement for DIFFA, trying to get ready for our setup at the DIFFA party (signs, flyer's, table clothes, back drop, auction items, clothing for Julian, our own clothing...), trying to get vendors lined up for the upcoming Crave Show in November, getting our press passes in order for Portland Fashion Week and getting our travel and hotel all lined up (thank you Dawn!).

I got a call yesterday from Weight Watchers Magazine (my jewelry is going to be on the cover of the Nov/Dec issue, hence the photo above), they want more jewelry from me for a makeover photo shoot. They called me yesterday at about 1pm and want items for Friday (as in tomorrow). Once I got home last night Jeff and I went to dinner and then as soon as I got home I started making jewelry. It feels good to be making jewelry again as I have kind of pushed it aside for Urban Fashion Network. That keeps me busy enough! I made 3 sets and some earrings and finally got to bed about 1:30. I woke up at 6:30 and dropped the items off at FedEx to be overnighted.. Phew!

We are ready for the DIFFA event, it was alot more work than we thought but hopefully they will raise alot of money for the local AIDS groups.

Also, we hope to see you at the Crave Show - make sure to stop by and say hello. I will actually be selling my jewelry there... or at least that is the plan right now!!

Green Fashion Week has come to a close...

The week started off slow for us as we all had other obligations we had to take care of, so we had to try and make it to the Green Fashion Week events when we could. We did a pretty good job of splitting up the events and making it to most all of them. Sadly, we missed the trunk show on Thursday. I heard it was a fun shopping experience.

I must say though, the final fashion show evening at Bell Harbor was my favorite. For being the 1st year this event has happened, they did a great job of organizing it and making it look very high end! There was nothing out of the ordinary or "newish" to this event.

When we arrived, we noticed the silent auction items were hard to see but they quickly remedied that problem with many candles which added an elegance to their table of items. I didn't even know there was going to be a silent auction but they did have a few nice items I would have gladly gone home with... Birna had one of her signature pieces of jewelry on the table and as always it was beautiful! (Did I mention we ran into her and spent quite a fun evening getting to know her better. We also ran into Tara from Revival Ink, Susan and Trudi from Beautiful One Magazine and Renee and Philo from Liminist - Seeing all of them made the evening!)

They had an open bar with Limon mojitos and guava champagne martinis - both were delicious! We had a few appetizers when we arrived but after the runway show is when they really started passing the food around.

Now, on to the runway show. The Spring/Summer '08 lines they had on the runway were amazing. I saw so many items I would love to own! Eco friendly clothing from local designers - what could be better? I took pictures of everything and I must apologize as their is a head in most of the pictures - there was a woman in front of me who would not sit still. She kept moving to the right to talk to her friend, moving to the left to talk to her other friend. I was getting sea sick (and annoyed) sitting behind her. She just would not stop moving so it made taking pictures rather difficult, plus she had curly hair and I think you'll see some of it in each picture... I did the best I could. (In the pictures, the designer name will appear after each set of items so you will know who designed what...)

I'm a little sad that Fashion Week has now coming to a close. We were pretty spoiled in the Northwest this year... I think 3 fashion weeks should squash the socks with sandals (~I shudder~), flannel shirt wearing, backpack toting reputation that Seattle has. We are a very outdoor lifestyle, casual living city, HOWEVER, there is a large population of those people who love fashion. Trust me I LOVE wearing jeans... but I love fashion and I love owning beautiful pieces. We have so many talented designers in this city - it's about time people start to take notice! Support your local designers anytime you can, they really are amazing!

Seattle GREEN Fashion Week

It's finally here! The new Seattle Fashion Week that has been pretty heavily advertised on the radio, around town and in several local publications. We've been waiting and now it's here!!

Regina kicked off the week for us at their first event at Vessel with cocktails and mingling. Then on Wednesday she and I attended their green panel discussion (which you can read about here). Thursday we missed due to prior arrangements. Tonight is the spa and services suite at El Gaucho which we also will be missing as we were to late to schedule any services (I secretly am crying inside as I love spa services with a passion!). Saturday is the big runway event and we WILL be there! stay tuned for updates and images from those events!

Tonight, Dawn and I are headed to La Rousse for the Sameunderneath Trunk Show - should be fun!!

I have to gather all the items for DIFFA this week and attend a few shows... It's going to be a busy weekend! If you see me and I look like I am dragging, it's probably b/c I am... A non-fat vanilla latte will make me feel better - anyone?

High School Musical I Heart You!

Ok, first things first... let me start off that I meant to blog this weekend about what we did... Sorry I am late in doing so.

Saturday was the end of Seattle International Fashion Week so UFN went to the finale runway show. We got in on a media pass, bought a drink and then headed in to get a seat (check out Dawn's blog for the 411). Here are the pictures I took.

Ok, now for the headline of this blog... I love High School Musical. I read Perez Hilton religiously and he is always talking about this movie and the people on it... I usually just skip over those parts and read on for the John Mayer news, who's having a baby, divorced or loosing their children. Not anymore my friends, I Heart HSM! I was flipping through the digital cable yesterday and just happened to see that the Disney Channel had HSM and HSM2 back to back. I figured "Why not, it's a lazy Sunday".

I am hooked. The songs were catchy. The acting wasn't half bad. The story actually held my attention. I felt invested in their lives towards the end... (Man that Zac Efron is a cutie! He's 19 people... a little to young for me, but old enough for me to think he's cute!)

I don't know if I have ever mentioned this here but I LOVE cheesy 80's movies, high school movies, girly flicks, sappy stories, stupid humor... all in all ridiculous movies. (Don't judge me, I do love foreign films - I can enjoy a great movie.) But there is something nice about vegging out to something totally silly that requires absolutely no thought at times. You can escape everyday life for a few hours and just laugh at something stupid. Call it a guilty pleasure of mine!

I wasn't able to watch the 2nd one as Desperate Housewives came on and I had to watch that. :) So, to keep up with fashion conversation, the outfits in HSM were really well put together for the movie. I enjoyed the "evil-ish" character Sharpay's outfits - they were always so interesting (see picture above). It was fun just waiting to see what she would have on next (not saying I liked them all, just that they were perfect for the movie). The whole movie was just so colorful! I loved it!

Side Note: I just read that there may be a HSM3... Hmmmm... Guess I should see 2 then! It's making me relive my Saved by the Bell and 90210 days... ahhh when life was simpler...
